Drawing....
I started drawing some more skateboarding figures, experimenting more with the patterns on them. Im interested in showing more of the conflicts within a person, through the patterns on a body - ie using loose circles against tight squares, also through the predictability of the pattern...continous or changing or does it stop? Colouring in neatly between the lines or more loose colouring. Using a ruler to draw the lines or free drawn lines? I think i like these images more...i have become a little more open in my attitude concerning the human condition...perhaps not all humans are all structured and planned...but i definetly think that there is a huge conflict between structure and spontaneity, or having control against giving it up? within people...its definetly evident in myself.
I also am interested in this pull between both the earth (representing the structure?) and the sky(representing the spontaneity?)..so i worked some of the drawings to show a gradual change within a person, and the influence of each. The feet and lower legs are made with the same pattern, ruled and neatly coloured in...because it is closer to the earth, but nearer the head the pattern is less defined, less predictable and more gestural.
I am also interested in showing this influence of the mind over your body...ie the change starts at the head and works out to the hands and feet (the 'action' parts of our body).
If i was to draw these onto a sky background, the head and upper body would be more transparent, showing the sky, which is interesting.
In this pull between both the earth and the sky i am also interested in the idea of being a slave to the world, it 'binding us'....but also interested in a rescuer who offers help from above. But its the idea of the offer, or invitation that im interesting, its not forced or binding like the world is. This is seen in the image below, where i have tied strings around the ankles, but the hands are not bound, it is the figures choice to be holding the ropes from above.
